Mr. Ambassador met with Minister of Defense

?Czech Ambassador Petr Štěpánek held talks with Iraqi Minister of Defense Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi in minister's office on October 29, 2023.
Both sides discussed the state of their bilateral relations and possibilities of advancing mutual cooperation.
There is a long-term cooperation between both countries in the field of defense. The Czech Republic provides regularly training courses for pilots of Iraqi Air Force (IQAF). This is upon an invitation and at the expense of the Czech Ministry of Defense. Iraqi Air Force flies L-159 ALCA (Advanced Light Combat Aircraft) that are produced in the Czech Republic. Iraqi pilots undergo training at the Tactical air force base in Čáslav and at the Tactical Simulation Center in Pardubice.
Currently there are ten soldiers of the Czech Army in Iraq, some as a part of operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) others asigned to support the ongoing reform of the Iraqi armed forces (under NATO Mission Iraq / NMI).
