The Czech Republic helps save the World Cultural Heritage in Syria

The Delegation of the Czech National Museum headed by Mr. Michal Lukes, the Czech National Museum Director, visited Syria on November 1 – 3, 2017. The main aim of the visit was to discuss possibilities of further cooperation in the field of the Cultural Heritage Protection.
The delegation met with experts from the Syrian Directorate General for Antiquities and Museums, including its director Dr. Mahmoud Hammoud. Within the visit, an agreement was signed by both directors regarding a donation of specialized material and equipment for historical artefacts restoration. The material and equipment will be provided within the Czech governmental program of providing humanitarian, development and reconstruction assistance to Syria. Mr. Lukes and Dr. Hammoud have also discussed possibilities of organizing specialized trainings for Syrian experts and restoration of Syrian historical artefact in the Czech Republic.
