Today, with the second round, the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) finished processing the results of the elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Voters sent 23 men and 4 women to the benches of the Senate for the next six years.

The second round of the elections took place in 22 senatorial districts; five female and male senators were already elected in the first round.

In the first round, which took place along with elections to regional councils, 30.47% of voters came to the senatorial elections; in the second round of the elections, it was 17.54%. Two years ago, 42.65% of voters showed their interest in the senatorial elections in the first round; in the second round, it was 19.44% of voters.

The highest turnout was in the electoral district No 68 – Opava , in which 23.30% of voters came to vote. On the other hand, the lowest interest in the second round of the senatorial elections was recorded by the electoral district No 62 – Prostějov , where the turnout was 12.15% .

“The second round of the senatorial elections ended up w ith t he smallest difference between the numbers of votes in the Zlín electoral district. The difference between the winner and the loser was 731 votes there. The youngest elected senator is 40 years old and he is historically the 13th senator elected at this youngest possible age. The oldest elected senator is 75 years old,” Eva Krumpová, First Vice President of the Czech Statistical Office, notes. The average age of newly elected male and female senators is 53.7 years.

In 27 electoral districts, 169 candidates in total were registered for running in the senatorial elections; of that, 140 were men and 29 women. The average age of senatorial candidates was 56.6 years.

The last electoral ward was processed on Saturday at 4:25 p.m. On Monday morning, the State Electoral Committee will negotiate the voting results. After their approval, they will be published in the Collection of Laws of the Czech Republic.
